Description

This Online Camp is offered in multiple one-week session throughout the summer. The time of the camp is 1 pm to 3 pm EST and is perfect for beginners, or intermediate level with some experience in Scratch, working at or above grade level in 4th – 6th grade.

Inspired by Buzz Aldrin and his passion to encourage children to explore our universe using their imaginations, this course engages students to code interactive projects as digital stories or games detailing a Human Mission to Mars and the colonization and research that occurs when we make it.

This course introduces the concepts and vocabulary required to work in any coding language. Using a block-based system, we focus on the application of concepts and technical problem-solving techniques without the associated syntax to bring our creativity and passion to life.

Objective

This course aims to teach the basics of computer science concepts and software engineering in a fun and dynamic way for first-time or practicing makers. Students will build technical vocabulary and a solid understanding of foundational computer science concepts.

By the end of the course, students will be able to take a prompt in any subject and combine it with the power of new computer science and software engineering knowledge to showcase an original computer program with confidence.
