This camp is designed to engage middle and high school students to learn about cybersecurity through a fun, hands-on, operating system and network security learning games and activities. All levels of experience are welcome!
The camp readies participant for a competition that puts teams of students in the position of newly hired IT professionals tasked with managing the network of a small company. In the rounds of competition, teams are given a set of virtual images that represent operating systems and are tasked with finding cybersecurity vulnerabilities within the images and hardening the system while maintaining critical services in a six-hour period. Campers who participate in the camp will advance their learning and have skills to share with school-year competition teams.
This course furthers the students use of CS concepts and vocabulary required to work in any coding language. Using a block-based system, we can focus on the application of concepts and technical problem-solving techniques without the associated syntax. Additionally, design thinking, strategy, planning, and execution will be a few of the cross-cutting skills honed in this course.
By the end of the course, students will be able to take a prompt in any subject and combine it with the power of new computer science and software engineering knowledge to showcase an original computer program with confidence.
